Heathlands offers both diagnostic and surgical procedure referrals for other veterinary practices in the following areas:
MRI Investigations
We can provide scans to assist with diagnosis of neurological disease of cranium, disc disease, spinal disease, middle ear disease, suspect nasal tumours, joint disease, and also provide tumour staging. However, we regret we can no longer provide scans for the BVA/Kennel Club Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Syringomyeilia screening scheme. All MRI scans will be provided in DICOM (and JPG if requested) formats - To view DICOM format images we recommend a free viewer from Santesoft, which can be downloaded here.
Critical Care
We have a fully equipped laboratory for biochemical, electrolyte and haematological examinations, blood gas analysis, and coagulation testing. Our nursing staff are on premises 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, allowing optimum care of patients. Available equipment includes infusion pumps, mechanical ventilation, incubators, suction, blood gas analysis, continuous blood pressure and ecg monitoring, and central venous pressure monitoring.
Opthamology
Diagnostic assistance includes intra-ocular pressure measurement, indirect ophthalmoscopy, slit-lamp biomicroscopic examinations, direct and indirect blood pressure measurement, echographic (ultrasonography) examination of the globe and retro-bulbar space, and MRI examinations of the orbit and neurocranium.
Surgical procedures include surgery for refractory ulcers, corneal surgery, corneal pedicle grafting, dermoid removals, thermokeratoplasty, removal of intra-ocular foreign bodies, eyelid surgery and facelift procedures.
Cardio-Respiratory Investigation
Diagnostic procedures we offer include ECG recording and interpretation, radiographic examination of the thorax, bronchoscopy with broncho-alveolar lavage, echocardiography using B mode, M mode, pulse wave, continuous wave and colour flow doppler, contrast echocardiography, and direct and indirect blood pressure measurement.
With regards to surgery we can provide removal of thoracic foreign bodies, biopsies of lung tissue, laryngeal surgery, and upper airway surgery on brachycephalic breeds.
Information for owners
If you are not currently registered with us, your own vet must refer you to Heathlands for investigation or treatment of your pet's problem. You will always be referred back to your own vet for ongoing care and post-operative treatment. If you feel your pet requires one of the services we provide, please discuss it with your own veterinary surgeon first, who can then refer them on to us if they feel it is necessary to do so.
Information for vets
If you are a veterinary surgeon wishing to arrange a referral for one of the above services, please contact the practice on the telephone number provided here to discuss your case with us.
