TOOTH CARE

Just like humans, dogs are prone to the build up of tartar on the teeth that eventually causes recession of the gums and disease. This is why many old dogs have smelly breath. This is unnecessary, as you can help to prevent tartar build up by feeding your pet plenty of chewy items or by tooth brushing,.

Chewies, such as the Pedigree Petfoods dental Rask do help, but unfortunately provide a lot of calories and if fed often will make your dog fat.

The best way to keep a dogs teeth clean and their mouth healthy into old age is to do the same thing we do to keep our teeth healthy - BRUSH THEIR TEETH. This is a simple procedure, especially if you begin brushing your puppie's teeth at an early age. You should use a very soft toothbrush and special doggy toothpaste. Doggy toothpastes need minimal brushing to work. Just like us, tooth brushing is most effective if done daily.

If you are having difficulty brushing your dog's teeth, pop your pet into Heathlands and our  dental  nurse will  assist  you  and demonstrate the best way free of charge.
